European Youth Driving Championship: Junior Single Horse Class Added for the First Time
SportThe FEI published the schedule for the European Youth Driving Championship last week. The championship will take place in Osorhei, Romania, from 11 to 16 August. One notable development is the introduction of a Junior Single Horse class for the first time.
At previous editions of the European Championship, only drivers in the U25 category (ages 16–25) were eligible to compete with a single horse. Starting this year, Juniors aged 14 to 18 will also have the opportunity to compete in this discipline. The addition broadens the championship programme and creates a new pathway for young talent to develop within the sport.
Valuable Addition
“It’s great to see this class being added,” said Magda Coppoolse, Chef d’Équipe of the Dutch youth driving team. “It makes participation in the European Championship possible for a larger group of young drivers, and we can only welcome that.”
Coppoolse does, however, regret that the change was announced relatively late. “We are already well into the preparation process. Ideally, you would like to know much earlier that an additional class is being included.”
