German Four-in-Hand Championships for Horses and Ponies Relocated
SportThe German Championships for four-in-hand horses and ponies have been moved from Rastede to Greven and Schildau. The change was made due to strong international interest in the Nations Cup for four-in-hand drivers in Rastede, scheduled from 22 to 26 July.
Normally, the Nations Cup for four-in-hand is held during CHIO Aachen. As Aachen will host the World Championship for four-in-hand horses this year, the Oldenburger Landesturnier in Rastede has taken over the organisation of the Nations Cup.
Originally, the German Championships for Four-in-Hand horses and ponies were also planned to take place in Rastede. However, to ensure sufficient space and capacity for the large international field of competitors, it was decided to relocate the national championships.
Greven and Schildau
The German Championships for Four-in-Hand horses will now take place from 2 to 5 July in Greven. The four-in-hand pony championships will be held from 17 to 19 July in Schildau, alongside the German Championships for single horses, single ponies, and para driving.
According to Leonie Kalthoff, driving coordinator at the German Equestrian Federation, hosting the Nations Cup in Rastede offers the organisation an opportunity to further strengthen its international profile. Rainer Bruelheide, chairman of the driving committee of the German Olympic Equestrian Committee, stated that the initiative for the relocation came from the Four-in-Hand drivers themselves.
Greven is known as an experienced organiser of international driving competitions and German Championships. The organisers in Schildau also have extensive experience with both national and international driving events.
