Chester Weber Provisionally Suspended for Human Anti-Doping Rule Violation
American Four-in-Hand driver Chester Weber has been provisionally suspended since 29 September following a human anti-doping rule violation at the CAIO4* in Windsor in May. The FEI has confirmed this to Hoefnet.
Weber’s provisional suspension is included in the overview of ongoing human anti-doping cases and is also listed in the FEI database. The FEI has delegated the management of its human anti-doping programme to the International Testing Agency (ITA).
Consequences Remain Unclear
It is not yet clear what consequences the case may have for the results Weber achieved after CAIO4* Windsor. In the period that followed, he won the bronze medal at the FEI World Championship Four-in-Hand Driving in Aachen and competed in CAIO4* World Cup qualifying events in Szilvásvárad (HUN) and Rastede (GER).
“At this stage, it is too early to speculate on the duration of the suspension or on how the results he achieved after Windsor will be treated. This therefore also applies to the World Championship in Aachen and the other two World Cup qualifying events in which he competed,” an FEI spokesperson told Hoefnet.
The International Testing Agency (ITA), which is handling the case on behalf of the FEI, has confirmed to Hoefnet that the proceedings are still ongoing. Weber has been provisionally suspended since 29 September, but no final sanction has been imposed at this stage.
As part of the procedure, Weber has the right to provide an explanation and to request analysis of the second part of the sample collected, known as the B Sample. Only once the case has been fully resolved will it become clear whether Weber will face a period of ineligibility, how long any such period may be, and whether the case will have consequences for results previously achieved. According to the ITA, it is not possible to predict when a final decision will be issued.
