European Championship Youth: Eventful Marathon Day
It was an eventful marathon day at the FEI European Championship for Young Drivers in Osorhei. For some competitors, taking a risk paid off, while for others things did not go quite as planned.
The day began with the Children class. After dressage and marathon, Ewen Aillaud (FRA) leads the standings with 93.00 penalty points. Setbacks
There was a serious incident in obstacle 3 during the U25 Single Pony marathon when Sophia Schmid (AUT) hit part of the obstacle hard, causing her groom to fall from the carriage and collide with an element of the obstacle. An ambulance was required and the marathon was suspended for approximately 45 minutes.
The U25 Single Pony class resumed at around 1:30 p.m. local time, requiring everyone to refocus after the interruption.
Dressage winner Luisa Dietrich (GER) retained her overall lead and now has 119.10 penalty points after the marathon. Bernardo Vilarinho Losa (POR) follows on 123.55, while Francesca Consolini (ITA) is just 0.04 penalties behind him on 123.59. Renate Provoost (NED) is sixth with 126.24 penalty points.
There were also six competitors in the Junior Single Horse class, and two of them were unable to keep their carriages on all four wheels. Milla Jeksrud Hoveslen (NOR) overturned in obstacle 1, while Nick Zöhl (SUI) overturned in obstacle 5. Marvin Schildt (GER) leads the Junior Single Horse standings with 127.96 penalty points. The margins behind him are extremely small: Afonso Ribeiro (POR) is second on 131.39, while Prins Lejeune (BEL) occupies third place with 131.70.
U25
In the U25 Pony Pairs, Dániel Saru (HUN) will head into the cones as the leader with 129.89 penalty points. Jonathan Grüber (GER) follows in second place on 132.65, while his compatriot Michele Schildt (GER) is third with 137.54.
There is a Dutch leader in the U25 Single Horse class. Daphne Pouwels (NED) tops the standings after dressage and marathon with 126.93 penalty points.
Her advantage is small, however, with Come Boisteau (FRA) close behind on 127.57. Gábor Görög (HUN) currently occupies third place with 131.62 penalty points.
Particularly in the Children, Junior Single Pony and U25 Single Horse classes, the margins at the top are extremely tight, meaning there is still everything to play for in the concluding cones phase!
