The driver is reasonably satisfied with his performance late in the afternoon at the Aachener Soers. “It was a bit of a gamble to use Hugo as a lead horse; he has a lot of presence but can also be overly enthusiastic. When he started to get a bit too big in his movement, I focused on him a little too much. I had to pick up the pace, which caused the wheelers to stretch out a bit. Hugo got a little tense during one of the walk phases; that cost us two points. But I’m looking at the bright side—he could just as easily have messed up both parts!”
