WC Four-in-Hand Aachen | IJsbrand Chardon’s Diary: “Good game plan for the marathon”

Sport

“We had, of course, heard that Koos had driven a brilliant marathon with his fantastic team. At that point, he had clocked the fastest time at almost every obstacle. During the team meeting, we had agreed to drive aggressively; after all, we had to if we wanted to go for gold. And gold was the goal—nothing else.”

Running out of steam

The driver therefore focused on the times Koos had set. “At the first two obstacles, I finished with a time very close to Koos’s. Perhaps I started a bit too fast, because things got much tougher after that. The team lost some of its power; I couldn’t really keep the momentum going. Things didn’t go my way, either; at obstacle 6, a ball fell—just bad luck.” IJsbran..
